I currently drive a Tahoe. It's large, has seating for 7 and I never ever use the third row because it takes up all of my trunk space. Since it's just currently me, D and hubbie we have PLENTY of room in this SUV. It's paid for, but it does have quite a few miles on it. It's mechanically sound and has never given me any problems.
We have recently stumbled across a 2005 Town and Country minivan limited (completely loaded with whatever you could think of) that we could basically trade out the tahoe for and still have a paid for car. ( I will NEVER have another car payment) but I'm struggling with driving a minivan. I KNOW that it's more practical with another baby on the way. I know that the stow n go would be awesome, the captain seats would be fantastic and having even more bells and whistles than I currrently have would be great too...but I'm seriously struggling with the idea. Is it because I'm in my mid 20's? Or b/c of the stigma, I don't know...but moms, SUV or minivan? Why or why not?

My boss has a Town and Country. Really nice. I do understand the dilemma but have no answers. I chose a sedan, because I drive 30+ miles one way every day and didn't want to pay the fuel bill for either an SUV or a minivan. I do know I'd have a tough time going to a minivan, but acknowledge that it's totally a vanity issue considering they're super nice in features . . . Sorry, I'm NO help! :-)
i used to drive an SUV and was fine with it... but when i realized i won't be having any more than 2 kids (ever) i went ahead and got a family sedan. it comfortably fits 4 people, and i'm happy with that. when the time comes to get another car, i'll be getting a hatch-back something or other... preferably a Subaru Impreza Hatchback. i HATE driving mini-vans because of the stigma attached to them, and the SUV was just too much of a gas guzzler. we got the smallest car we could happily fit in, and i'm very pleased with it. :)
but, if you're just looking at SUVs vs a minivan, i'd look at reliability and gas mileage. what kind of mileage does the van get compared to the SUV? also, how reliable is the van known to be when compared to your already reliable SUV?
SUV. NEVER a minivan!! Although with your deal I might take it just for practicality's sake. Although I'd HATE IT!!! We are buying a Honda Pilot after viability day so we can fit all 3 babies across the middle seats, and fold down the last set of seats for storage room. I REFUSE to buy a mini van if at all avoidable! However if someone said "Hey I bought you a mini van and you have it free and clear" I wouldn't say no. Especially if it comes with tons of extras!
I'm all about practicality, so minivan. I grew up in a minivan. I don't mind it... and minivans these days are WAY cooler than anything back in the 80s. Do you legitimately not like driving a minivan? Or are you basing the decision solely on stigma? That's like saying you wouldn't like purchasing a house that fits your family perfectly just because you're worried what someone else thinks. It's kind of ridiculous.
We just made the jump from small suv to minivan and I am totally underwhelmed. The T&C wouldn't even fit our double stroller...where's the extra space? We ended up getting a Grand Caravan which had a little more room in back but we have to drop a seat into the floor so I can get to the 3rd row to buckle in the boys. Our 7 seater basically went down to 5 seats when we added those carseats into it. It is roomier in the cabin, but we'll have that filled to the brim on road trips to make up the loss in the trunk area. I personally would rather have a separate storage space and stationary seating so I can have both seating and storage at the same time. Our next purchase will be a huge SUV. No doubt about it.
