The Brother/Sister Relationship
So, I'm the 2nd of 3 girls. My husband is the oldest of 2 boys. Dawson is my first, obviously a boy. And Allie is going to be our last (probably) and is a girl (or so they say.) I know nothing about a brother/sister relationship. I know all about same sex siblings, but how does the brother/sister thing work? Do they love each other the way sisters love sisters and brothers love brothers? Can they be best friends even though they are totally opposite sexes? Will her friends come over and try to date her brother and his friends try to date his sister? Will he be super over protective of her and will they be close when they're all grown up and moved away? I want Dawson to always have a sibling to share all of his memories from his childhood together and to love and trust and be close to always....I thought he'd have a brother for that. Is he going to be mad at me because she's not a brother but a sister instead?

I have an older brother, he is five years older than me. I can say when we were younger we fought like crazy because I was the little sister always tagging along with him and his friends. I think that would be less of a problem for Dawson because him and Allie are going to be closer in age. Now that I am 27 and my brother is 32 we are BEST friends. My brother is my hero. We go out to eat together and even go shopping together sometimes. He has always protected me almost in the same sense as my own father did. It's a pretty amazing relationship and I would have never wanted a sister. I love that my brother and I talk on the phone, send emails to one another just to say hi, but there is NO competition between us like there is between siblings of the same sex. Dawson is going to love his little sister to pieces.
Probably not much help here but I have 3 boys 11, 8, and 5 and they are absolutely without a doubt so protective of their little 2 yr old sister. They love her so much! Now don't get me wrong, they all push her buttons and like to tease her here and there but when it comes down to little Addy getting in trouble from her mom.....lets just say one of them comes in an swoops her up and tells me to be nice....brothers are absolutely fabulous for their little sisters!
