The hardest thing I've ever had to do...
and I just did it...and that was to put my heart into ferberizing (that's the method we used) my child for the first night...I've tried 3 times before this and gave up, bawling, in 3...this time 40 minutes, a diaper change for D, and a shot of vodka later, I have a child snoring away in his crib...and for the first time since he was born, I didn't have to rock him to sleep. Don't be fooled...as excited as I am that he's sleeping soundly right now, I'm terrified of any wake ups tonight, and even more afraid of tomorrow night...and I'm serioulsy struggling with mommy guilt. Now I need to go find my USB cord to upload those pictures from the beach that I promised.

You can do it! I still rock the boys to bed at night but for naps if they are crabby and tired but won't go down I let them fuss it out in their cribs. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Either way it's tough. Moms need sleep too!
Ugh Mandie I so feel your pain! Brinley will be 1 on August 13th and we still rock her to sleep. I know I need to sleep train her to go to bed on her own but I just can't bring myself to do it.
Don't be hard on yourself though, you are doing the right thing! Good luck!
You can do it, sweetie!!! It's SO hard, but after a few nights of doing BW, Ben doesn't cry at all. And he really was a total temper tantrum thrower! He'd scream and start coughing/choking and I'd go in there and put my hand on his back and tell him it was sleepy time and eventually he just realized, "hey, she's not going to pick me up so I guess I might as well sleep." Now I finally have a baby who does sleep. He only wakes once a night, takes two hour naps and all I do is go put him in his crib. I don't nurse him to sleep, I don't rock him to sleep. I put him in his crib totally awake and he goes to sleep in a few minutes. :) Anyway, done with my tangent now. Keep us posted! I really hope you have success with this. You deserve it!
mandie...it sounds like all of us are having to do the "tough" job of sleep training lately. Good luck hun...we can do it.
