I know I'm a little early b/c Dawson will supposedly fit in his chicco until he's 30lbs, but I'm pretty sure he's going to be too long for it before he reaches that. On Wednesday he was 13.4lbs and 25 inches long...so I'm shopping around for my convertible car seat....I know
Angela can help with this, but does anyone else have any thoughts on the safest convertible...I don't care about price, nothing is too pricey when it comes to my childs safety.

No actual experience here, but we're planning on getting a Britax - either the Roundabout or Boulevard. I've heard rave reviews about Britax, and it's the brand that "Baby Bargains" recommends, also.
I agree, Britax is an awesome seat & is highly rated! They have several different convertible models & I reccomend the "Marathon" (or the Decathalon or the Boulevard) b/c it will accomodate your child up to 65 ibs! Their Roundabout & Diplomat only go up to 40 lbs. (I bought the Marathon recently for my son & did all the research! LOL!)But, if you plan on having more babies in the near future, you may not need it to last your son until 65 lbs....good luck! (-:
We have the Britax! We haven't used it yet, but I've heard a billion great things about it!
I don't really have a suggestion, but I wanted to mention that how long your LO is doesn't really matter with their comfort in a rear-facing car-seat. Their legs can be bent and the car-seat will still work just fine. Whatever you get, just make sure it's got a five-point harness and isn't one of those ones with the bar going across the front. Those ones are usually not nearly as safe as the five-point ones. We have an Eddie Bauer one for DD that we got as a gift from the in-laws. I like it. :)
We bought the Britax roundabout after buying a Recaro that doesn't fit in either car very well. One thing to keep in mind is that since you need to keep it rear facing for so long, your car type is important. DH has a sedan and I have a 4runner and anything bigger than the Roundabout would not fit in the sedan. The 4runner is also a tight fit but could probably go a little bigger. I feel like we wasted over $200 on the Recaro but I gave it to my mom for her minivan so it's not a complete waste. Good Luck!
This is the one we bought: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3029003
Our carseat guys at work say it's the best...I believe them. Good luck!
